(2020)

➽a bit about this coronavirus

Stat (worldometer)

Mail still works in France in most cases.
Thing is that it's becoming difficult to send something. The mailbox near my home does not work anymore, there is another one I should check. My post office is closed  [has reopened... difficult to follow] (the mailboxes on its wall work though) and my local tobacco seller which does a bit of postal work too is closed right now, I don't know what happened because it is among the shops  that are allowed to stay open. Maybe they are ill ? They are from China and have travelled there in december/january.

We are confined at home in France since 17th march,
many shops are closed since 15th.
We can go out for very special reasons, food mainly.
So it can be difficult for me to send postcards right now, I still have many to send, I will write them and see what I can do.
I'm myself at risk with this covid-19 and won't go out a lot in the next weeks.
I still receive a lot of mail, papers, etc. but mail won't be delivered  on saturdays from now and situation may change again.
Some mail carriers are angry and anxious.... Some have asked to the people to be "responsible" and not to overuse postal services for shallow reasons... I follow the news on Le Monde which is a serious paper here but I don't pretend to know everything and that everything I've read is right !

[update 23/03/20: mail carriers will deliver mail 4 days a week, then, 3 days a week and maybe 2 or 3 days a week a bit later. It is also asked to avoid unnecessary and non important mail and parcels : "La Poste appelle d’ailleurs ses clients à concentrer leurs commandes et leurs envois sur ce qui est strictement nécessaire".].

Main concern in France is : huge lack of masks even for health professionals and people in contact with others, and lack of tests : not everybody is tested even if s/he is ill. And of course the possibilities of hospitals will very soon be very limited especially for resuscitation, which requires many means, material and human ones. This is very dark times coming.

This part is written sunday 22th march 2020 and will be updated if necessary.

04/04/20 : I have received mail : two days this week.
My postcrossing account is inactive now.
My post office is now open again.
Post is working on its most important services (paiement des prestations sociales) and it does not concern mail obviously, it's more on the bank side to avoid break in service contuinuity, esp. towards the poorer and most fragile people who are a big part of its clients.
I have ordered stamps and other stuff on la poste website but have not received them (ordered 15 days ago). Obviously everything is much more slow than usual here.
Street mailboxes can't be used anymore, you have to go to post-offices and use those that are on the walls of those buildings.

I have not updated this.
11th may - déconfinement
and steps by steps back to almost normal
During these weeks, I have received a few postcards in april, may and june and it was totally erratic. All were sent in march and took a very long time to be delivered (more than 2 months for one that was sent in march from Oregon!!!).

JUNE 2020 - This is post-corona times. I need a bit of time to be back to official postcrossing, I will have to send many postcards (I'm awfully late) and I will stay inactive for the moment for what's about receiving postcards. For a while, don't know how long.
I also want to change my profile (the usual one I mean).
Slowly slowly back to normal, no hurry. Those last weeks have been in many ways surrealistic.

SEPTEMBER  2020 - I'm back now and since july, still have to update my profile.
Things are getting better both in received and sent but some strange moments happen, as 2 postcards sent in march from the USA (California) and received in september. Where did they stayed for so long?
In France, situation is not that good again, there is a clear rise of contaminations (and more tests too) although the disease seems to be less lethal than it was in spring. We are obliged to wear a mask all the time, out of our homes : streets, all places including work, etc. Well tbh I wear it all the time since may (end of lockdown here), don't want to touch it, it's on and that's all. Even on a bike, which is not mandatory.

JANUARY 2021 - Oh yeah I know... My profile should have been back on the postcrossing website since a long time ago. Back and a bit different.
Could there be a theme for 2021? Send me snails ♥ Postcards showing snails. But all the other themes listed stay perfectly ok and... surprise me! Oh... and the animals, listed below (just for the bingo) (well, not only) ;)

JULY 2021 - Profile updated
